Lake Vermilion mid December ice didn’t change much last week, and the warm sunny weekend made a dent in the snow on the ice. Ice thickness hadn’t made much progress and was still in the 10 – 11″ range. The weekend weather was so comfortable it was fine to skip the portable part of the time. That made it easy to move around, which was good as the first 3 spots fished produced a few bites but no lunch. Fortunately as is usually the case the good window arrived and a lackluster day turned into a nice mix of perch and walleye for supper.
The Lake Vermilion Penguins have staked the east end of the lake. The forecast is good for cold, not so good for more snow. Be careful as there are a handful of pressure ridges to contend with. Just a reminder – if you are looking to rent an ice shack, Fortune Bay has theirs set up and ready. Give them a call!
Have enjoyed visiting with guests on the phone as they firm up their 2019 Lake Vermilion vacation plans. Some weeks are getting close to full, so don’t delay if you have a particular week in mind. We appreciate all of you who have made our resort your 2019 destination for some fishing, families and FUN!
Stop wishing…come fishing!
