Lake Vermilion early August fishing found the Muskies and Smallmouth Bass continuing to steal the show. Just ask Zach Brennan, who spent the week boating 7 muskies, the largest a 53.5″ Personal Record for him. He caught 3 that were over the 50″ mark. Not a bad way to celebrate High School graduation before he heads off to college! Check out the photo album on our resort Facebook page – “Zach Brennan’s week on Lake Vermilion” to see pictures of the rest of his fish. There were several other muskies caught – while we focus our attention on those that are 40″ or more, there were a good number in the 30’s, pointing to a bright future. Seemed like the muskie fishing ran in spells. When they turned on, the action was busy – Dave ran out for a short time one afternoon, and within 50 minutes caught 2 muskies under 40″ and a 39″ northern. There was a 57.5″ muskie caught during the first day of the PMTT on the lake. Muskies our guests caught include:
53.5″ Zach Brennan, 51.25″ Zach Brennan, 50″ Zach Brennan, 47″ Jake Johnston, 46.5″ Joe McCartin, 44″ Zach Brennan, 43.5″ Zach Brennan, 43″ Bill Creeden, 42″ Roger Teubert, 40″ Zach Brennan.
The Lake Vermilion Smallmouth Bass fishing continues to provide action, with both live bait and artificials producing fish. Choose one of the plentiful islands and work your way down the shoreline casting points, and you’ll be busy. There were a good number of smallies over 3.5 pounds with 3 pushing 5 lbs. Ed Siedlecki caught 2 of those big ones and added a 5 lb Largemouth bass to his list as well. Thanks to Adam Havlicek for sharing some great smallmouth bass photos. Bass our guests caught include:
Smallies: 20″ Ed Siedlecki had 2 & Nick Griffin, 19″ Adam Havlicek had 2, 18.5″ Keven Fitzgerald, 18″ Kevin Fitzgerald
Largemouth: 20″ Ed Siedlecki.
Walleye fishing found reports of pods of fish being marked, but reluctant to bite. Those that were cleaned were full of perch. Bill Fitzgerald caught a 5 pounder. Walleyes we heard about include:
25″ Bill Fitzgerald, 24″ Payton Jaminski, 22″ Dave Popp & 20″ Levi Jaminski.
Hard to believe kids are heading back to school in some places. No time like NOW to get that last Lake Vermilion fall fishing trip on the calendar.
