2013 wrap up – Everett Bay Lodge on Lake Vermilion

We are in the midst of putting the "finishing touches" on the 2013 resort season.  While we certainly enjoyed the company of our "regular" guests who make each season great, we were happy to welcome a good number of returning guests who had missed a few years, but found their way back up north to enjoy beautiful Lake Vermilion.  We are truly blessed to have [...]

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report – Sept. 22, 2013

In addition to this week's Muskie action reported on the previous post, this bite was more of the same.  "Eater" walleyes and some bigger ones.  Randy Hodgin and George Schafer had to work for what they caught, but in the end they caught a nice mix of walleyes to eat and a nice list of fish they released.  Along the same lines, the Wagner crew [...]

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report – September 18, 2013

As the regular season winds down, as usual, the walleyes get bigger and one needn't travel far.  Cloud cover and a.m. or evening windows have been the most productive, with our guests doing best on crawlers.  While the Hodgins have caught and released a good number of fish in the slot range, they have also caught the makings of a nice fish fry too.   [...]

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report – September 10, 2013

Not much change since the past week.  Walleyes are still in intermediate depths, mainly 18 - 24 feet, either rock or sand/mud  bottom.  However, one group this week is doing well even shallower, mainly 15 feet.   Many report finding fish on almost any main lake structure, but it is a matter of sorting out which spots are holding the bigger fish. Last week there was [...]

Lake Vermilion fishing report – Sept. 1, 2013

Fall has finally arrived.  After near record temps for several days on end, a high of 61 degrees today was a welcome change.  Over the past week, the walleye fishing was the highlight of the week, with some first time Lake Vermilion anglers catching plenty of walleyes off the pontoon.  Plenty of eaters were caught as evidenced by the fish cleaning activity, and several good [...]

Lake Vermilion Fish Report – August 25, 2013

Making up for lost time as it relates to the warm days this past week.  After cooler than expected temps for the previous several weeks, this past week was well above average for daytime high temps, but the wind that accompanied it made things a little more comfortable.  We had some first time guests with us this past week, and walleye success was mixed.  A [...]

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report – August 18, 2013

The past week was noteworthy for its cooler than normal temperatures, with a couple nights falling down below 40 degrees.  As one would guess, the fishing was inconsistent, with a mix of "eater" walleyes, some jumbo perch and nice smallies among those caught.  The muskie fishing was sporadic, with days of seeing fish followed by days of nothing going on.  The Brennans boated a 31" [...]

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report – August 10, 2013

Where has summer gone?  Without a calendar, would have been sure it was late August or early September.  Sounds like things all across the Midwest are cooler than normal.  At any rate, for those on vacation, it meant a sweatshirt and a really chilly morning in the cabin if they slept with the windows open. The walleyes were especially affected, as one cold front after [...]

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report – August 3, 2013

With the cooler than average weather pattern holding over the area, the early part of the week offered up a tough bite, but fortunately as the week progressed the bite seemed to get better.  Those who looked for smallies found them in decent numbers; the "eater" walleyes caught were a little smaller than the previous weeks, but there were some good size walleyes caught and [...]
