Lake Vermilion mid December ice
Lake Vermilion mid December ice didn't change much last week, and the warm sunny weekend made a dent in the snow on the ice. Ice thickness hadn't made much progress and was still in the 10 - 11" range. The weekend weather was so comfortable it was fine to skip the portable part of the time. That made it easy to move around, which was good as the first 3 spots fished produced a few [...]
Lake Vermilion Hard Water season is here!
Lake Vermilion hard water season is here, with ice ranging anywhere between 5 to almost 8 inches, but there is still some variability based on location so use caution. Eric got out Sunday thinking he could forgo the shack as the temp was reasonable, only to find the wind less than cooperative. At any rate, nice walleyes have been caught on good size minnows with the usual narrow active windows and long periods of minimal [...]

As always, we also look forward to meeting new guests and setting up their trips to beautiful Lake Vermilion. With a [...]
Lake Vermilion still offering up walleyes.
October 2018 Lake Vermilion is still offering up walleyes for those that have kept their boats in the water as the deer opener approaches, but the end is in sight. The usual fall tactics of trolling crank baits around 2 m.p.h. and lindy rigging deep spots with nice size minnows have continued to produce nice fish. The water temp was barely above 40 degrees the last time out and the daytime highs next [...]
2018 Season is in the books
2018 season is in the books..all except for the final blasts of color on the trees. Fall 2018 The final weekend of fishing for our guests was pretty decent, with several cabins catching limits and more slot fish released. Eric and a buddy headed out on Sunday, and while the temperatures were low, they managed to catch several walleyes, a couple limits of eaters. Everything came on minnows for them. Crank baits produced [...]
Late September fishing on Lake Vermilion
September 2018 Late September fishing on Lake Vermilion was interrupted by rain much of the week, and those who made the best of it had mixed results. Colder than normal temperatures would have normally moved fish into their deeper fall spots, but we had reports of fish being caught in the early September depths, 16 - 28 feet, on the edges of structure. The crankbait bite continued to catch fish, and those chasing [...]
