What are the walleyes eating on Lake Vermilion? Guests who caught their limits of eaters found both crawlers and leeches to produce fish. There was an abundance of action for some of our guests who caught plenty of numbers, but big fish were harder to find. The Buans were back in on Sunday morning cleaning some eaters, and everyone in the boat caught, so it was a fun way to start their week. While Jason had the fish cleaning honors all week long, not sure who was happier at the end of the week – Jason or his son Jack – when Jack mastered his walleye filleting skill. We snuck out midweek on 2 different evenings, and caught bigger walleyes trolling cranks and better numbers rigging, again equally split between leeches and 1/2 a crawler.
Musky action has been limited, with fish seen and a few blow ups and near misses. Lake Vermilion surface water temp pushed up to 82 degrees Saturday afternoon. (Update – Sunday night as the clear high sky gave way to a cooler front, the surface water temp had fallen down to 73 degrees just before dark.)
This week has started off with a flurry of activity – a handful of dinners on the grill, some dock fishing, volleyball, plenty of swimmers in the pool, and the Rydberg family dinner of pizza pockets cooked over the campfire!
We are happy to welcome several returning guests this week. Before most ate their breakfast this morning, Andy Ault was back at the dock with his limit to clean. New to walleye fishing last year when they first fished Vermilion, he clearly has the touch.
What’s ahead? Several weeks of familiar faces and the chance to welcome some new guests to Lake Vermilion. The remainder of the month is full except for a 4 night stay in Cabin 10 beginning July 21st. After that August is full until the week of August 11th as we try to fill in 2 cancellations for that previously full week. Enjoy the 10% off rates. Summer is short lived —-
Stop wishing….Come fishing!
