How’s the fishing on Lake Vermilion?  Depends on the day.  With the drastic change in weather, the fishing has been inconsistent to say the least.  While some groups have caught their fish, others have had to hunt a little harder.  Spots that worked in the 80 degree stretch went dry when the water temp fell over 10 degrees, making the shallow bite more productive again.  Even those who typically rely on lindy rigs have found the switch to a leech and bobber to be a better option.

Mike Butcher and his post Memorial Day crew caught their share of northerns, returned some slot walleyes, caught some keepers and ushered in the musky opener with a couple beauties, both just below the 40″ mark.

Shallow bays have been producing northerns on artificials and muskies are on the move.  A more stable weather pattern of warmer days and sun will push along the bass spawn.   The forecast looks better after a weekend of rain.

Some of the fish we heard about were 23″ and 22″ walleyes by Dick Hanson, a 33″ northern by Travis Hopwood, a couple muskies by Steve Turner like the one below, and a nice northern by Dick Hanson, seen here: https://www.facebook.com/Everett.Bay.Lodge.Lake.Vermilion

Anyone pondering a trip north – pull out your calendar – one spot for three nights beginning Wednesday this week, one spot the week of June 23rd, and a couple short stays leading into the July 4th holiday.  Lots of returning guests this week and the next several, pointing to a good time to fish Lake Vermilion!
