Lake Vermilion mid September fishing – Everett Bay Lodge guests have had mixed results. August ended with some really high temps only to find us lighting cabin heaters and sleeping with the windows closed as the first week of September ended. Now we are back to 80 degrees, nice green grass, and some inconsistent fishing. Haven’t had a lot of really big fish caught, but those who caught walleyes caught some very nice eaters. The Rolfsons ate fish every day they were here, and released some that were in the slot as well. We were fortunate enough to sneak out on the water a couple of times, and found both the smallies and walleyes to be cooperative. The first trip we trolled crankbaits, and the second we rigged with good size minnows. Both methods worked fine. A good number of guests seemed to key on a productive spot, and if it wasn’t great in the a.m., they did well late in the day. Key was to stay at it as most groups eventually caught their walleyes.
Ron Rolfson landed a 40.5″ Northern, and to listen to his mom Barb tell the story of the chaotic net job, sounds like there was no shortage of excitement in that boat! Another nice fish on the Everett Bay Lodge Wall of Fame!
The muskies have seemed to be a bit more challenging, with long stretches of time seeing nothing followed by short windows of several active fish being reported. Some of the fish we heard about include:
