Lake Vermilion fall fishing stays steady, particularly for walleye and small mouth bass. Add the chance to host college friends for a week, catch plenty of fish for some meals, and laugh, laugh, laugh! Isn’t that what a trip north is all about?

For our group, trolling crank baits off the back of the pontoon was the easiest option. It produced fish every time out, with only one outing being “slow”. While walleyes were the most frequent catch, we picked up several smallies and Dave got a nice, thick northern. A trip out to Lindy rig was the most productive day. We caught a nice variety walleyes, perch, smallies and a few big bluegills to round out the day’s catch. Crawlers and chubs both produced fish. Karin Gordon caught and released a nice 22″ walleye, and our casual netting skills left a couple side of the pontoon misses to go unmeasured.
This week we are home to several musky guys getting their plans sorted out for the upcoming PMTT anniversary tournament later this week. While fish are being moved, as you would expect, much of the detail is being held close to the vest. Best of luck to the several teams staying with us.
We had a last minute cancellation for a spot THIS WEEK – if you are considering a short trip north, now is the time. As we are completely full on Saturday, it would only be through Saturday morning. Two cabins are left starting Sunday the 16th and a couple more as September winds down.
Lake Vermilion water temperature was 66 degrees yesterday. Would expect things to stay pretty steady as the daytime highs hang in the 70s, unless we get some cool rain.
