July is moving along quickly, with the past week again producing decent numbers of walleyes for many guests, mostly perfect for the skillet. Mike & Peggy Stone spent their anniversary up here, and as shown above, had several decent outings. When a visit to Zup’s for fish fry fixins jumps into your plans, its a good day! They caught each time they left the dock. The Slater / Anderson group spent some time with Cliff, and though the first day was on the heels of a cold front, each day produced limits, with the girls setting the bar on their day at 52 walleyes. Both crawlers and leeches continue to work.
The Covingtons focused on the bass, and caught several of those as well. Chris caught a 3.5 pounder and Emily caught a 3 pounder.
Chris Weglinski & Courtney Schultz chased muskies, and ended up with 3 in the boat and some near misses. Doesn’t sound like the big girls have shown up in their typical late July spots with any regularity yet.
Lake Vermilion water temp hasn’t changed much, sitting in the mid 70’s. 75 degrees at the dock this morning.
Some of the fish we heard about include:
Muskies: 43″ Chris Weglinski, 42″ Courtney Schultz, 38″ Chris Weglinski.
Bass: 18″ Chris Covington.
Walleye: 25.5″ Doug Miller, 20″ Jeff Purcell, 20″ Kayla Ngilla.
Would be remiss without mentioning the wedding of Aaron & Allie Bennett. Allie has grown up coming to Lake Vermilion making Cabin 9 their home each July. This year she added some variety to the trip, choosing to get married at her grandparents place at the end of the peninsula. A beautiful setting, a perfect destination, and a wonderful couple!
We have a couple partial weeks to fill starting on August 11th due to cancellations and a spot beginning Friday, August 17th.
Stop wishing…come fishing!
