Another week of lots of walleyes being caught, cleaned and fried, and many declarations from guests about great optimism for the upcoming years of walleye fishing, as the size range of fish caught points to future years of plenty of eater walleyes. It was a week with many returning guests who just know how to catch ’em, and that is just what they did. Fish for breakfast for a few, fish for lunch for a few, and fish for dinner for many more. The bite has begun to transition to leeches as minnows continued to produce fish, and the evening slip bobber bite and trolling crankbaits were both good options.
Smallie action this past week has begun to heat up. As long-time guest Tim Magee said, “those smallies were sweating!” He had a couple days where he had what he described as some of the “best smallie fishing of his life,” and he’s logged a lot of hours over the years. He commented remembering the days when an 18 inch smallie was a good one up here, but now they are routine.

Water temps have been up and down again with the unusually cold lows earlier this week, with a surface temp of 66 degrees Wednesday and over 70 Thursday.
If you don’t have your Lake Vermilion plans made for 2016, now is the time. We don’t have anything left in June, but there are a couple windows of dates open right after the July 4th weekend.
