Lake Vermilion Mid June 2016 fishing report

Another week in the books, and by the looks of things in the fish cleaning shack, more fish in the skillets – even at breakfast time in a couple of cabins!  The walleye bite has shifted from minnows to leeches or crawlers, and just about every presentation caught fish.  It was a week of learning for several guests who spent their first week on Lake Vermilion, but in the end, most reported “figuring it out” eventually, and many saying they look forward to a return visit.  With a lake this size it definitely gets easier each time you fish it.  Deeper summer reefs have begun to hold fish and the shallow crank bait bite worked well for us the couple nights we snuck out after dinner.

Our guests continued to enjoy the bass bite, with good numbers of both smallies and largemouth being caught.  The Jacobsens had a nice variety in their catch, picking up some northerns too.   Muskie action was limited to follows, but with the warm weather on the horizon it won’t be long before that action heats up.

It was a great week for picture sharing by our guests, and we always appreciate that!  If you want to see a sampling of what they shared hop on over to our Facebook page and check out their pics.  https://www.facebook.com/Everett.Bay.Lodge.Lake.Vermilion/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1146093302109783

Fish our guests told us about include:

  • Large mouth bass:  19″ X 3  – Mark Jorgensen
  • Small mouth bass:  18″ – Jerry Fancher, Dennis Driscoll
  • Walleyes:  25″ – Jim McLees, 24.5″ – Jerry Fancher, 24″ – Jerry Fancher, Mark Jorgensen; 23.5″ Kevin Mach, 23″ – Matt McLees, Dick Jorgensen; 22.5″ – Kevin Mach, 22″ – Matt McLees, Isaac Kijowski, Matthew Kijowski; 21″ – Mike Kijowski, 20″ Kevin Mach, Rod Mach.

If you haven’t made your plans for a Lake Vermilion trip in 2016, the time is now.  The phone is ringing for September with a few timeframes down to just a spot or two, so – Stop wishing…..Come fishing!!
