Lake Vermilion opener 2017 is in the books, and there were plenty of fish caught.  The cool morning temps made for a chilly start to the morning, but the bite was steady, especially during the first half of the day.  By 11 a.m. we had guests cleaning their limits, the average size right around 16.5″.   About every cabin ate fish, and many were able to catch some to take home as well.   On Saturday, the Lind guys had just 2 limits left to catch on Sunday in order to have a limit for each of the 12 guys.  Based on the action in the fish house, plenty of nice eaters were cleaned.  Minnows were the bait of choice as the sub 60 degree water temp was still cold for the leeches.

Many guests reported their limits to fall in the 14.5 – 16″ range, but some larger fish were caught & released too.  Some of the walleyes our guests told us about include:

24″  Tyler Glad

23″  Tyler Glad X 2

21.5″  Lance Lind

21.5″  Tyler Glad

21″   Tom Puehl

The Doherty crew enjoyed a nice fish fry Sunday – if only mother nature would send us this great weather every opener!

While we are all filled up for the weekend coming up, there are plenty of mid week spots for those who want to sneak out and catch some walleyes!  Looking ahead to Memorial Day weekend, we have one spot left in the big cabin.

Stop wishing….Come fishing!
