Lake Vermilion later summer pattern has begun to settle in, with this past week producing plenty of fish for the skillet.  We had many, many young anglers at the resort this week, and much credit goes out to the dedicated dads that spent the week getting them on fish.  Add the group of tournament anglers who spent the week preparing for and participating in the MN AIM Pro Walleye Series State Championship held on Lake Vermilion, and the Coury family that focused their attention on taking advantage of the many, many attractions in the area, and it was a diverse, FUN week.

For the most part, those who wanted to eat fish did so, with several cabins reporting eating a couple meals here as well as taking fish home.  In short, it seemed like the week started out ok, got a little tough in the middle, and then improved again, especially on Friday, when many reported a fantastic walleye bite.   The crank bait bite has taken off and crawlers were the bait of choice, with the return of the minnow bite soon to follow.   Jumbo perch mixed in with the walleyes were a welcome addition to the skillet, and Alec Ballentyne caught a nice 13 lb northern you can see on our Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/Everett.Bay.Lodge.Lake.Vermilion/?hc_ref=ARQpn6g7eOqcjzo9bS64Lv0NmHgVT4arWUQNNDR31ee2ycP9wqUDNtYpB659gP6jurQ&fref=nf

For those who ask us “Is there anything else to do in the area besides fish?” how is this for a fun-filled week?   Pat & Kathy Coury have taken each of their grandchildren on the trip of their choice, and this year Alex reached that magic age when it was his turn.  With the chance to see wolves and bear on his wish list, they ventured up north and used the resort as their home base, taking trips to places like the American Bear Center, the International Wolf Center, the Discovery Center in Chisholm, the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary, the Railroad Museum in Tower, hiking around the Pike River dam and two rounds of putt-putt at Pier 77.  Add the resort pool and water toys to the list and they stayed busy all week.

Some of the fish our guests told us about include:

Small mouth Bass:  18″ Chad King

Northern:  36″ Alec Ballentyne

Walleyes:  28″ Bjorn Horgen, 23″ Mike Lillemo, 22″ Jason Maras, 21.25″ Jimmy Bell, 21″ Cooper Maras, 21″ Jimmy Bell.

You can see more info about how our guests did in the AIM tourney this past weekend.  Their results on our Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/Everett.Bay.Lodge.Lake.Vermilion/

If you have time for one last trip to Lake Vermilion, now is the time to make your plans.  We have a spot open this week and a couple partials for next week.
