Bib Bay is ice free

Big Bay is ice free

The update is easy – IT IS GONE! What a difference from yesterday to today. There may be a floater left where we can’t see it, but as far as we are concerned, it is time to focus on some Lake Vermilion fishing! While the ice changed plans of many opener regulars, those that came found open water to fish, catching more big fish than eaters. Pete Spong caught and released a 23 inch, Dave Spong a 21 inch and Todd Alwin a 20″ walleye.

There is plenty of water to go around this spring. Our unofficial measuring device, the boulder at the shore at our dock, picked up 3 inches since yesterday, with the water level high like it was in 2008. Typically this later ice out and high water has combined to make for some fantastic fishing, so we are pretty excited to test that theory.

Still some spots through the remainder of May, with just a couple options left for June. If you don’t have your plans made yet, now is the time. Call us and get your dates set for your trip north.
