2017 Lake Vermilion Walleye Slot expands “keeper” slot.

2017 Lake Vermilion walleye slot expands “keeper” range.  A 2″ increase in allowed walleye keepers will open up the harvest of walleyes in the 18 – 20″ range, previously protected by the lake’s 2006 slot.  Now walleyes 20 – 26″ will be protected, with one over 26″ allowed in the 4 fish bag limit.  The research completed points to an abundant population of healthy female walleyes, still protected by the new slot.  It presents the chance to keep some bigger… Read More »

2016 Lake Vermilion fishing is in the books at Everett Bay Lodge

2016 Lake Vermilion fishing is in the books at Everett Bay Lodge with our last guests enjoying some excellent fall weather.   As September came to an end with some windy conditions, the start of October was perfect and many guests did very well on the lake.  Unfortunately for the Casper crew they fished the early part of the week and although the conditions weren’t great, they reported catching walleyes every way they tried, and caught their share of… Read More »

Lots of limits on Lake Vermilion

Lots of limits of eater walleyes were caught on Lake Vermilion as the end of September approaches.  Toss in the “too big to keep” fish that were released and overall it was a pretty decent week for many of our guests.  The transition to fall deep spots has started and trolling crank-baits produced a good number of fish.  Had some self-proclaimed bass anglers get into walleyes on Sunday, and it led to a week of several outings where they seemed to… Read More »

Lake Vermilion mid-September fishing

Lake Vermilion mid-September fishing news has varied, with some guests doing very well on walleyes and jumbo perch while others have spent their time chasing muskies.  While muskies have been seen in both weeds and on the rocks, they have been reluctant to bite in most cases.  Dan Andrews was able to boat a couple – a 47″ and a 45″- but those were the recent muskie highlights.   Guests who were targeting northerns had great success last week too,… Read More »

Lake Vermilion late summer fishing

Lake Vermilion late summer fishing produced mixed results for our guests this past week.  The Lannings described it as a good week of fishing, with 3 muskies, plenty of smallies, some northerns and lastly walleyes for the skillet.  Seemed like there were days that were kind of tough for everyone, and then days when several cabins did well, but they had to put their time in.  We snuck out mid-day for a couple hours around lunchtime once we got our… Read More »

Late August Lake Vermilion fishing

Late August Lake Vermilion fishing produced good results for many of our guests this past week.  The muskie action was a little more consistent with several fish over 40″ caught as well as some under 40″ too.  The walleye bite was pretty good throughout the week once the cold front effects passed, with crawlers continuing to be the preferred bait.  Several cabins ate MANY fish meals and were able to reload their limits to take fish home with them.  Add… Read More »

Lake Vermilion fishing mid August

Lake Vermilion fishing mid August found most of last week’s guests doing well.  Some PR muskies were caught, like the 52″ caught by Mark Presnail, and a good number of guests made daily trips to the bait house to clean their catch of Lake Vermilion walleyes.  There were several walleyes too big to keep, but eater size walleyes and perch were plentiful, with several guests reporting eating fish every day and replenishing their limits to take some home as well…. Lake Vermilion fishing action

Lake Vermilion fishing action continues to produce a nice variety of fish.  Several cabins reported weeks of fishing above their expectations, like the Korolewskis, who ate walleyes every day they were here, crediting their first day outing with a recommended guide for helping them narrow down their hunt on this first time trip to Lake Vermilion.  More interested in the Lake Vermilion bass fishing, James and Laura Rush honed in on the smallies and caught every day, with a shorter… Read More »

August fishing on Lake Vermilion

August fishing on Lake Vermilion has found smallmouth and largemouth bass action staying strong.  A good number of decent bass have been caught and released, along with a couple outings of over 30 northern caught, several in the 30 – 36″ range.  Walleye fishing has continued to produce mainly eater size fish, but we’d expect to see some larger ones as the weeks in August move ahead toward September.  Bluegill action offering up some good hand sized eaters was… Read More »

Lake Vermilion July fishing ended better than it started.

Lake Vermilion July fishing ended better than it started, with the last few days of the month finding the walleyes ready to eat.  The middle part of the month found conditions a little tougher than usual, as both perch and crayfish provided ample food for the many, many walleyes that were marked but not biting.  Fortunately as the last week of the month moved along so did the stubborn bite, and eventually both crawlers and leeches produced many limits of… Read More »
