Lake Vermilion smallmouth fishing

Kay Hawley with one of several Fall Lake Vermilion smallies.

2016 Lake Vermilion fishing is in the books at Everett Bay Lodge with our last guests enjoying some excellent fall weather.   As September came to an end with some windy conditions, the start of October was perfect and many guests did very well on the lake.  Unfortunately for the Casper crew they fished the early part of the week and although the conditions weren’t great, they reported catching walleyes every way they tried, and caught their share of eaters.  The Marciniak crew battled the elements for the first part of their stay, but a fantastic last day on the water as the conditions improved made up for it.  The Mitchells cashed in on the great weather and caught many limits of walleyes which they ate here as well as more to take home.   Kay & Doug Hawley fished just a couple days and caught a good number of 3+ pound bass and some good walleyes as well.

Once the last guest trailer left the parking lot, we headed out and found the walleye bite to be as good as they indicated.   We caught our limits, and were pleased to find a great mix of sizes in the fish we released as well.  A good representation across many different year classes points to a nice outlook for the walleyes on Lake Vermilion.

Guests told us about the following fish they caught & released:

Walleyes:  24″ Robert Everett. 21″ Kay Hawley. 20″ Kay Hawley.

Muskies: Robert Everett 40″.

Smallmouth Bass:  19″ Kay Hawley. 18″ Doug Hawley. 18″ Kay Hawley caught & released at least 5. (See our Facebook page for some nice pictures.)

While the mild early October weather lulled us into thinking we had plenty of time to work our way through the end of season “to-do” list, yesterday’s low 30 morning temps have shifted us into high gear with all the boats stored, all but one dock out, and the delivery of another new rental boat, this time a 2017 Alumacraft Escape 165CS.  Reservations for 2017 are coming in nicely.  Seems early to say this, but some weeks are beginning to fill for 2017.  If you have a preferred cabin and time frame, its not too early to make your plans.

Thanks to all who made our resort your Lake Vermilion home in 2016.  It was a fantastic season!

Stop wishing….Come fishing!
