The smallmouth have moved up shallow
consistently this past week on rocks in pre-spawn fashion.
Water temps are close to 60 degrees on the surface. Leeches
and crank baits have been very successful. Several18,19 inch
fish have been caught. I even managed to release a 20"
smallie on a perch crank bait. It was huge.
Walleye action has been outstanding in
low light conditions. When the sun is high its better
to fish smallmouth or northern. We're in for some cloudy
weather over the next few days, so midday walleye may be
much better. Many nice fish have been released this week.
Right off the bat Virgil Harren caught a 25" walleye on a
bobber and a leech. My son Eric caught a 23.5" on a crank
bait along with a 21.
One big 37" northern was caught by
Jerry Slaughter. A 46" muskie was released by Frank Graczyk
fishing for bass.
