Happy 4th of July

2006-07-04

The mayflies have continued to hatch on Big Bay causing some inconsistency in the bite. Some walleyes have been taken on the summer main lake humps. Last week saw big walleyes released. Steve O'Malley from St. Peter, Mn  caught a trophy 31", 12 lb. walleye on a jig. He released a 24 1/2 as well. Tom Kaphings from Mnpls., Mn released a 26 1/2. Tim Magee from Oak Forest, Il released a 24". Jerry Wagner and Tom Bullock released 23"s. Jessie Bullock a 22" and Terri Wagner a 20".

The smallmouth bite has slowed from previous weeks. Most fish have been caught with leeches. Tim Magee and Amanda his daughter caught fish that were over 18".

The muskie action has heated up since last Wednesday. I've managed to see alot of fish and caught 3 this past week, all in the 30's. Eric Meyer from Outdoor News boated a 42" on Sunday morning. We've seen fish on rocks and weeds. One fish hit a topwater bait, loads of fun.

May your pole always be bent! Dave
