The cold front moved through last Monday
and the fishing improved. It was just too hot for too long.
The cooler temps dropped the water temps 8-10 degrees and
the fishing got much better. The muskie fishing was the best
on Monday. The eight guys in cabin 1 boated eight fish that
day, two that were 50's. Matt Zastrow boated a personal best
50 and Mike Mealman boated a 50. The guys in cabin 1 boated
26 fish altogether for the week. It slowed Thursday and
Friday as calm conditions prevailed. They had 18 fish over
40 inches and everyone in the group caught at least one
muskie. Jim Carow boated the most with 7.
Success finally came for my son Eric, age
10. He boated his first muskie Thursday evening on a bait
Matt Zastrow recommended. His first fish was a 50 1/4! He
landed it by himself. The fish put up quite a fight. I've
been waiting to hear those magic words from my son for
awhile, "I got one!" I looked over my shoulder only to see
this big girl tearing up the water while Eric is
holding on for a fight he'll never forget. Thankfully, Dad
didn't screw up the net job.
Tod Griffith from Grantsburg, WI
boated a 44 last week and I managed to boat a 44.5.
The walleye fishing improved some by
late week on the mid lake reefs. Crawlers are still working
the best. Steve Hendrixson from Muncie, Indiana released a 5
lb. bass last week.
May your pole always be bent! Dave
