We've now had some really nice weather
for about 11 days straight which has brought those mayflies
to a peak. So far it has not slowed the fishing down. The
presentation of choice for the last couple of weeks has been
a slip bobber and leech in shallow water. Pitching jigs with
leeches has also caught a number of fish. Phil Carlberg,
released a 24 inch walleye and Julie Rittenberry caught a 26
inch walleye this past week. Quite a few 20-21 inch walleye
were caught this past week. The
smallmouth have been going nuts on the crayfish in shallow
water during the sunniest, hottest parts of the day. Leeches
and crayfish cranks have been working there.
Some northern are being caught in the
shallow weeds and some muskie have been just followers
lately. Saw a big one last night behind my bucktail at dusk.
We've been seeing them regularly. Just need to be persistent
and they'll go.
May your pole always be bent! Dave
