Trolling crankbaits on the flats has
worked consistently since the last report. Managed to catch
14 in a couple of hours with three lines in the water. Eric
and Valerie caught the most. Jerry Johnson's crew last week
had great success with this method. Mark Zimmerman boated a
23" and told me the caught fish most every evening. Reginald
Blanton caught a 23" casting in shallow water.
We've continued to see muskie in weeds
and rocks regularly. Managed to boat a 49.5" two days ago on
a surface lure at dusk. She put up quite a fight. She just
slightly ripped the water on contact. Originally I thought
it was a dink 32" until she got about 20 ft. from the boat
and decided she wanted to head a different direction. And
boy did she run. Tightened the drag some and got her to the
boat before she went out in the same way. What great fun
these fish provide.
Calvin Harmon's crew caught quite a
few bluegill and crappie in a secret spot last week.
Last week quieted down quite a bit
before the Labor Day rush. The lake has been pretty empty
except for the occasional muskie pre-fishing person. Simply
Fishing's big muskie tournament is coming up the week of
September 11. We'll be able to talk to some of the greats of
muskie fishing. Maybe some of their karma will rub off on
us.
May your pole always be bent! Dave
